Carter’s First Food, An Amazing Discovery!

Carter’s First Food, An Amazing Discovery!

Carter’s First Food, teaching the baby to eat.  Oh my! What an experience! Now before I had Carter I had never thought about learning how to eat. It’s just something you know how to do (and I can do it well!). So when the pediatrician discussed starting cereal at this 4 month checkup I was excited. When he said that the purpose of the Gerber Baby Cereal
is for him to learn HOW to eat I thought he was crazy. Fast forward to later that evening and I discover…not so crazy. Quick tip, I wouldn’t recommend buying too many contains of this as it lasts quite a number of uses.  Once he is eating well, we will probably give him fruit in the morning instead of cereal.

Being the rookie parents we are, we had the video camera and our phones out ready to capture his first bite of food.

Picture it…baby sitting (ok really slumbing over to one side) in the Bumbo Multi Seat  seat. Holding his head with one hand and feeding him cereal with the other. All while he tries to grab the spoon, my hand, the bib. As this is all happening he is also promptly spitting out the cereal I am trying to put into his mouth.
Let’s be honest, spoon feeding him was essentially pushing a spoon full of goop between his closed lips and raking it off before his tongue could push the spoon out. Did I mention this attempts to thrash his head to the left and then the right.  It was the baby feeding version of bull riding, wherein you have no idea which way this guy is going to turn next.
I must say I do like the Munchkin Soft-Tip Infant Spoon because they are pretty easy on his mouth when he’s wiggling this way and that. You can get a 6 pack on Amazon for less than $5.00 as an Add on item.
After maybe two minutes (which felt a LOT longer), he starts screaming. He has officially had enough of this thing we call eating.

We have since grown a little wiser as new parents and purchased a Graco Tablefit High Chair. Check out the blog post here on cartercasttv.com and the video on YouTube at his channel Cartercasttv
